SWOS Netherlands: bargain players, cheap players and national team selections in SWOS9697.

My Favourite Players
Below is a list of my favourite players and bargains in SWOS9697
First of all, I have .car files for all manageble countries in SWOS, though due to the size, I'm currently not able to put it on this website.
I do have a .xsl file (MS Excel spreadsheet) with what I think are the 20 best players of those countries in SWOS9697 available.
The spreadsheet can be found in this .zip file.
This list includes the values (from 0-7) for all players in the categories Passing, Shooting, Ball Control and Speed.
When I made the list, I didn't realise a higher value in Finishing makes a difference, though I did think Heading and Tackling hardly make a difference. I personally feel the quality of a header or tackle is determined by the timing of the player (that's you, or me).
Please note that I recently added the Albanian players to the spreadsheet!
Also note that even though it is possible to play as Australia or New Zealand, you can't load the saved career(s) anymore after entering your first season as national manager.
Goalkeepers
Since the quality of a goalkeeper is based on the price of the player, it's ridicoulas to list best buys and cheap talents at this position, as they simply do not exsist.
Instead, I'll give list of the top two goalkeepers per manageble country, who are playing outside of their own country. This could come in handy when becoming a national coach.

Right Backs
For this position, I tend to like players with outstanding speed and some ball cotrol skills. Shooting or finishing aren't that important in my own tactics.
(from left to right: nationality, name, price in SWOS in pounds, country of league he plays in, name of his club)
FRA Bixente Lizarazu 1.6M ESP Atheltic de Blibao Obviously no bargain at 1.6M, but I think he's the best one can get at this position.

ESP Jose Luis Soto 600K ESP Valladolid
ARG Mario Escudero 450K ARG San Lorenzo
ESP Javi 200K ESP Castellon
CYP Charalambos Pittas 180K CYP Appollon Limasol I list this guy because he made me World Champion as an attacker, he's one of only 3 fast Cypriotics.
SCO Robert Lee 130K SCO East Stirling
Defenders
For this position, I usually play with a sweeper with great speed to head a lot of balls away. I also deploy a playermaker type who starts all the attacks, like Frank de Boer does. This second defender needs to have some ball cotrolling and passing skills. The players listed are all sweeper types, unless there's additional text given. In fact, SWOS9697 doesn't have a sinlge player with a 7 (or 15) in both speed and ball control.

HOL Ruud Gullit 6M ENG Chelsea Of course he's too expensive, though he's the best playmaker in the game at this position
FRA Lilian Thuram 2M ITA Parma Obviously too expensive, though I think he's the best sweeper type of defender in the game
BRA Mauro Galvao 650K BRA Gremio His technique isn't state of the art, but his passes are brilliant

DEN Thomas Gravesen 160K DEN Vejle
JAP C. Katagiri 160K JAP Kawasaki Steel
Right Wingers
I usually deploy wingers to make crosses from the sideline, curling towards the penalty spot, to head in the ball with the attacker on the far post. Though at times, I like to step to the center and make a far corner shot. So first I look for speedy wingers with great dribbling skills, though when the money is there, a powerful shot is a pre.
(from left to right: nationality, name, price in SWOS in pounds, country of league he plays in, name of his club)
GER Axel Juptner 750K GER Uerdingen A giftd player who has the skills of a 2M to 3M winger.
GER Thomas Riedl 600K GER Kaiserslautern
YUG Igor Dragicevic 200K YUG Buducnost It's been a while since I bought him, but I have good memories in the First Division with him.
CYP Pambos Charalambous 160K CYP Olympiakos He's the second reason I won the World Cup with Cyprus. He scored some goals, but his crosses helped as well.
Left Wingers
I usually deploy wingers to make crosses from the sideline, curling towards the penalty spot, to head in the ball with the attacker on the far post. Though at times, I like to step to the center and make a far corner shot. So first I look for speedy wingers with great dribbling skills, though when the money is there, a powerful shot is a pre.

PER Freddy Suarez 650K PER Melgar Arequipa My favorite player in my Vitesse career. I liked him more then Gullit, Thuram, Bergkamp, Roberto Carlos and Luis Enrique.
ITA Salvator Sullo 600K ITA Pescara Best Italian left winger in the game.
ITA Pierluigi Di Gia 450K ITA Palermo Might be the best Italian left winger in the game.
SLO Julius Simon 250K SLO Dunajska Streda A bit better then the 180K guys.
AUS Craig Moffitt 180K AUS Parramatta This guy made me bench Marc Overmars at times. I scored beatiful goals with him.
SLK Miroslav Mika 180K TCH Viktoria Plzen Slightly better then the 150K guys listed below.
ENG Kevin Rattray 150K ENG Barnet
COL Jimmy Diaz 150K COL Cucuta Deportivo
UKR Andrey Kirlik 150K UKR Metallist K.
Midfielders
At this position I usually deploy two sidekicks for the playmaker, who are fast enough to grab the balls headed away by the opponents defenders. Speed is again a must, though skills like ball control, shooting and passing are a pre. Note that I score some goals with the midfielders from headed-in corner kicks.
(from left to right: nationality, name, price in SWOS in pounds, country of league he plays in, name of his club)
ARG Juan Jose Borelli 800K GRE Panathinaikos Not the cheapest of players, though belongs amongst the 2-4M midfielders
MAC Goce Sedloski 550K CRO Hajduk Split Good controlling midfielder. He won't score, but brings enough talent to keep the ball in the team.
ITA Giacomo Modica 350K ITA Acriale Cheap, though I never managed to play well with him, despite his skills.
BLS Boris Karasev 250K POL Gornik Zabrze Decent, nothing more, nothing less. He and Petr Kachuro helped me to win back to back world and european titles as Belarus.
ARG Marcelo Romagnoni 160K ARG Platense All he does is run? Yeah, though he's not that bad in other stuff at all.
Attackers
Right. Forget the other names, besides the wingers. Here are the guys who make the goals for you. Unless you have two brilliant wingers (and backups!) you need a handful of scorers in this department. Injuries will haunt you at the end of the season, so you will need at least two or three backups. (I've once had 7 injured attackers and had to play LB Pittas and a midfielder up front.) My main goal is to get fast strikers, though ball control or shooting and finishing will have to do the rest.
(from left to right: nationality, name, price in SWOS in pounds, country of league he plays in, name of his club)
HOL Dennis Bergkamp 9M ENG Arsenal Ehr... Let's say he makes the list because he's one of my favourites and is a perfect player in SWOS.
BRA Renato Gaucho 1.3M BRA Fluminense Ouch, the price tag ain't that nice. Though if you expect to have 2M for spare money, he's your man.
HOL Michael Mols 800K HOL Utrecht Makes the list as the best FC Utrecht player of the last 10 years. He does have some good skills in SWOS as well though.
GER Martin Max 650K GER Schalke 04 He can run up and down the field, while surpassing every single defender... But don't expect him to deliver an unstoppable shot!
HOL Ronald Hamming 300K HOL Fortuna Sittard He's fast, but can he finish it off? His skills say he does from time to time.
ENG Martyn Chalk 250K ENG Wrexham A hype amongst English SWOSers. Well, he can't make a powerful shot, but he is able to get past all the defenders with the ball.
LUX Paolo Amodio 200K LUX Jeunesse Esche Playing with Luxemburg? This is your man. Otherwise, he's not worth much.
JAP Keisuke Makino 160K JAP Carazo Osika Speed? check. shooting? a bit. the rest? nope.
